December - Santa Under The Bridge 2023

Welcome to the December issue of Under the Bridge, the official newsletter for Last House on the Block Society and its project Santa Under The Bridge. This issue  is a few days later than usual and that was on purpose. We wanted to wait until we had made the deliveries for our 2023 project. We have made them all except one place that we have already been to and will be returning for a second facility.

We started on Friday December 1st with Supportive Housing for Young Mothers. We gave them knitted baby blankets and knitted dolls. Our friend Sarah helped us get there that day.

Later that same day, two of my great-nieces, Felicia and Delainy, accompanied us to Brunswick Street Mission,

Souls Harbour Rescue Mission

and Stepping Stone

On Saturday December 2nd we were able to enlist our friend Christine to help us with our donations to Aerobics First for their Fit It Forward project,

and to Alcare Place

 On Monday, December 4, we had an unexpected winter storm well we knew about it a few days in advance but we really didn't expect it to be so bad. We made no deliveries that day. We made up for it on Tuesday. in the morning, Board member and knitter, Leona and her husband Gerald took us to Caitlan's Place, a facility of Coverdale Justice Society. This was our third year going there,

Coverdale has a new facility, Honour House, for females and gender diverse individuals experiencing homelessness, addictions, and mental illness aged 18-24. We will be donating to them next week.

Leona and Gerald also brought us to Marguerite Centre

and to Herring Cove Apts, a facility of Shelter Nova Scotia

Tuesday afternoon, Sarah helped us again to make our annual donations to Direction 180,

and also to Laing House

We had three deliveries on Thursday. December 7. Feeding Others Of Dartmouth. Pauline helped us out with that one.

Then, Christine drove us to Bryony House

And, we finished Thursday off with Leona and Gerald taking us to Among Friends Social Club.

On Friday, December 8, one of our knitters (Micheline) took us to 3 places.

Welcome to November. We have had our first snowfall, more of a light dusting of snow, really. At Last House on the Block Society, things are starting to come together. We've been gathering the items for our project which begins in a few weeks. Nancy and Bernie did one last afghan blanket together.

As far as scarves go, we might not have as many as usual, but we will have what we have and we will distribute to as many places as we can.

Welcome to the October issue of Under The Bridge. The next starts in about 60 days. We are busy getting things ready. Nancy was out of commission for about 2 months with a pinched nerve, but happy to report that she is back in action. We were able to conplete collaboration #5.

We are also working on a few more, should have photos for November. Leona has also been turning out scarves and hats and mittens and she even did us an afghan.

Welcome to the September issue of Under The Bridge, the official newsletter for Last House On The Block Society. There really is not much to tell you. Nancy had injured herself and was not able to crochet for several weeks. The blanket her and I had been working on was placed on hold. We have, however, resumed work on it. It is not finished so there is no photo for it this month.

The dish cloths are up to 136 now.

I have spoken to several of the places we donate to, just touching base. Everyone seemed pleased to hear from us and looks forward to seeing us in December. Everything else is going according to plan.

Welcome to August. Not much going on, just the click of knitting needles. Nancy has finished all the baby blankets we need for this year. Leona is continuing to turn out beautiful items for this year's gift bags.

I am up to 127 dish cloths. Leona will be making a few which will free me up to make a few more blankets. I have one I'll be starting soon. Blue and green, should have a photo next month.

Welcome to July. Hope everyone had a great and a safe Canada day. Not an awful lot to report this month. We did conduct a fundraiser last month which brought in a couple hundred dollars which was used to purchase yarn for Santa Under the Bridge. The winner of that draw was Isabella Morell.

Nancy and I finished a fourth collaborated afghan:

Nancy has almost all the baby blankets done for this year. I've gone back to dish cloths. At  #87 right now. Not much else going on.

Welcome to the May 2023 issue of Under The Bridge, the official newsletter for Last House on the Block Society. Still a bit slow around here. Nancy and I did collaborate on another afghan blanket. The pattern for this one was a bit more colorful than usual.

Nancy has been crocheting baby blankets since one of the places we donate to is for young mothers.

I have been working on dish cloths. Nothing fancy and I only have 47 of 250 done.

Our knitter/board member Leona Riley is keeping us supplied with knitted items.

The Councillor for District 6 - Tony Mancini - did provide us with a $200 donation which will buy some yarn for more blankets.

 Welcome to the March 2023 edition of Under The Bridge. Not much to report since February was a short month and aside from working on projects, we did not do much else.

Bernie completed 30 junior scarves. Nancy knitted a number of junior hats to go with the scarves. Nancy has started an afghan and Bernie has also started an afghan. Nancy also found a new pattern for baby blankets called a waffle pattern. So, I took a photo of one that isn't completed yet.

We'll likely give these baby blankets to Supportive Housing for Young Mothers.

On the clerical side of things, the year end financial report for 2022 has been signed, sealed, and delivered to the Registy of Joint Stock Companies. And that's all the new news for now.
