Santa Under The Bridge 2024

 We just now completed the Santa Under The Bridge 2024 project. As always it was a blast. We started last Sunday with a visit to Supportive Housing for Young Mothers:

On Monday we went to 3 places. Marguerite Centre.

Herring Cove Apts which is Shelter NS.

and Freedom Foundation.

Tuesday we started off with two facilities of Coverdale Justice Society, Caitlan's Place & Honour House.

and then we went to Bryony House.

On Wednesday we visited Direction 180.

Laing House

and the John Howard Society.

We stopped for a late lunch at Pleasant Street Diner.

While I was there, a fellow customer gave me this note:

Thursday, we visited Among Friends Social Club.

and Margaret's House.

Friday was a big day for us, starting with Stepping Stone.

moved on to Brunswick Street Mission.

and then to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission

in the afternoon, we delivered gifts to BMO on Baker Drive and gave them to our contact with Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre.

Finally, on Saturday, today, we delivered to Aerobics First for their program Fit It Forward.

and last but not least, Alcare Place.

This year's project will be the last major Santa Under The Bridge Project. It has been an ongoing project for 12 years. We have had a lot of fun and in the process we were able to spread some joy around. We will still be doing something along these lines, but not on the scale we have been doing it. November 2024

 November is here already. Not too crispy outside.....yet. Won't be long before the temperature drops, the cold winds pick up and the white stuff starts to fall. The elves have been busy, knitting up items to keep everyone warm this winter.

Micheline brought us her usual treasures.

So did Leona....

Helen brought us blankets and dishcloths. Bernie has knitted over 100 scarves this year, so it's all coming together. The project itself starts in a month. December's newsletter will be about a week late so I can get all the photos uploaded.

Sad to say this will be the last major Santa Under The Bridge project. We've been doing this for 12 years. Due to lowering health and rising prices, it's just not something we can continue to do. I will keep you posted on what we do before we do it. :)

October already. The beard is growing nicely. We are busy knitting, scarves mostly. I (Bernie) am currently working on adult scarf #63. I also have 30 junior scarves for this year, so I am almost at a hundred. Nancy has a few made as well. And Leona has been dropping items off here and there. She recently did a blanket for the project:

Welcome to August. Only 4 months until our 2024 Santa Under The Bridge project. Hard to believe with us in the midst of heatwaves, that old man winter is only a couple of months away. In fact, I'll be starting to grow my beard the end of this month. Well, growing may not be the exact word because that sounds like work and all I really have to do is stop shaving.

We are continuing to make afghans. Although we do not usually know who the blankets are for when we knit or crochet them, Nancy made one that she hopes will find its way to Marguerite Center.

Nancy and Bernie had collaborated on one. Bernie knits the squares and Nancy does the crochet work.

Bernie and Nancy have one in the works right now, Nancy is still crocheting it together, and Bernie has started another one.

Leona continues to craft her usual items of beauty. Hats, mittens, scarves, socks. She is versatile.

Welcome to July. happy Canada Day or Kana'ta day, whichever you prefer. Only a few things going on. Last month we had our Father's Day draw. Winner of that was Kelinda Sloan. The 50/50 money board fundraiser is still under way.

Nancy and I collaborated on an afghan. I (Bernie) knit the squares and Nancy crochets a border around them, then crochets the blanket together.

Nancy also made one herself. All crocheted.

We have begun work on another. I'm still working on the squares. Chocolate brown, light brown, emerald green, baby blue, and tulip pink with a yellow edging. Should be ready in a few weeks.

Welcome to the month of June. Father's Day is in June and we will be having a Father's Day raffle draw. We had one for Mother's day. The winner of that was Tracy Stiner-Maclean. The Father's day draw will be held on the day before Father's Day, June 15.

During the month of May we knitted a lot. I spent most of the month working on squares for a blanket Nancy and I are making. Once those were finished, I resumed work on dish cloths. I have about 80 done.

We have recently started holding our board meetings on zoom. It's a quick and easy way to get everyone together in one place at the same time.
